The Moruya area contains many popular beaches with regular surf patrols provided by the Moruya Surf Club which is located at South Heads. Shelly Beach nearby is also a popular family recreation spot at the mouth of the Moruya River. Bengello Beach extends to Broulee in the north while Pedro Point dissects the beach to Congo, Meringo and Bingie to the south.
From its original inhabitants, the Bugelli-Manji tribe, to bushrangers, the Gold Rush and beyond, Moruya has a rich history filled with the colour and romance typical of Australia's early days.
